I thought macro social work jobs didn’t exist.

Now I see them everywhere.
No dual degree. No restarting at entry-level. No endless cycle of job applications. No pay cut.
This course teaches you how.

About 4 hours of video plus a workbook.

Doable in a weekend.

Finish knowing the exact role you’re aiming for and who to talk to first to get there.

More than 40 social workers are already inside!
THE PROBLEM

You’ve typed “macro social work jobs” into Indeed more times than you want to admit. What comes back?

Case manager.

Therapist.

A coordinator role that pays less than your clinical job.

So you start wondering. Do macro social work jobs even exist??

Do I need an MPP? A PhD? My license first?

You don’t.

Believe it or not, your MSW is enough.

The jobs are there. You just never learned how to find them.

WHAT YOU'VE BEEN TOLD TO DO

Apply to as many jobs as you can.

Tailor your resume.
Go back to school.
Get licensed first.

Don’t get me wrong, people mean well. But none of these things are going to show you where your policy expertise actually sits.

I've seen social workers go back to school for a second masters degree, or even a PhD, only to graduate and still have no idea where they fit, or how to get there.

Ouch.

Schools of social work should be teaching this inside their macro programs. They’re not.
Clinical social workers get a clear path. Macro social workers get crickets.
This course fixes that in a weekend.

THE THREE THINGS THAT MATTER

 (1) Stop searching as a social worker. Look where the work actually happens. This workshop gives you the full list of titles and search terms, plus salary ranges for 8 policy role types.

(2) Name the value your social work experience brings, in policy language. The AIM Framework (included) gets you there.

(3) Connect with the people already doing the work. Even if they aren’t social workers (most won’t be). Even if you don’t know them yet (you probably don’t). You’ll learn how to find them by name and title, and what to say.

We warned you.

Once you see how to look, you’ll find so many macro paths the hard part isn’t finding them. It’s narrowing them back down. That’s built in.

NO ONE gains traction everywhere.

You’ll pick one.

WHAT YOU WALK AWAY WITH

Identify exactly where YOU fit in the policy landscape. Not a list of kewords to search. Your exact next job title.

Who to talk to first. Real people, by name and title. People already inside your dream-job organization.

The search terms that actually pull up your jobs, so you never run short of opportunity again.

Your experience rewritten in language a policy hiring manager recognizes.

Five things to do in the next 48 hours, starting from the job you have now.

Who is this for?

THIS IS FOR YOU IF:

  • You already know you want policy work. You’re stuck on how.
  • You’ve already tried. Searched the job boards. Asked around. Maybe priced out an MPP.
  • You’re done watching the same clients cycle back through the same broken systems, and you want to work on the system itself.
  • Generic career advice isn’t cutting it. “Tailor your resume” and “use your network” don’t help when you don’t know what you’re aiming at.
  • You’re ready to do the work. This is self-paced, with exercises you actually complete. You get out what you put in.

THIS IS NOT FOR YOU IF:

  • You’re not sure policy work is for you, and you want someone to convince you.
  • You're looking for someone to hand you a job board or a list of open positions curated to your interests. This workshop will show you how to curate and build your own list, so your options never run dry.
  • You want someone to tell you exactly which job to apply for. This workshop teaches you to draw your own "policy-pivot map" from scratch. Everyone's path will look different. We give you the tools.  We walk you through each step. You still have to do the work.

What Other Social Workers Are Saying:
Allegra R.
MSW

Before the workshop, I didn't really know specifically what I wanted to do in the policy space. I had an idea of the issues I wanted to solve, but not the "how" I want to be involved in the work to solve them. I didn't realize how important this is and what was missing in my policy pivot. A previous career coach told me to apply to as many jobs as possible, which is not the most effective approach.

Jared C.
MSW

...just landed his first policy job in housing!

"What surprised me the most about this process was how relatively quickly my network grew and, on a related note, how eager the people I interviewed were to connect me with others...The other major surprise was that the very first instance in which I applied for a job, and the hiring manager for that role was someone with whom I had previously had a networking conversation, I was offered the job."

Kirstin L.
MSW

"This workshop was incredibly helpful! It helped me think more flexibly and expansively about my career options – whether making a full pivot or better applying my policy skills to my current job. This is a great workshop for anyone with a macro social work background who is feeling stuck or off-track. The live Q&A session was also great for networking and moral support! I feel ready to think in a more hopeful and creative way about my mid-career strategy."

Amy S.
MSW

"The most helpful thing I took away from this course was the advice about narrowing my job search to a specific type of policy work. I felt like I needed to keep all of my options open just to 'break into' macro work, but that approach left me scattered and overwhelmed about what to even look for or who to network with.

I am still in the process of narrowing down my search within the mental health policy field, but the process feels so much less overwhelming now and I have a much clearer sense of where to start. Thank you so much for what you are doing. I truly had no guidance coming out of my MSW program, as nearly all of my peers went the clinical route, so the work you are doing in this space is very much needed."

Donnette H.

This is the best information I have ever received! I already have some local politicians and individuals running for federal office that I will start researching immediately. This is the first time I have ever felt like I have had any direction in this area. I am so energized and looking forward to the live workshop later this month! I will be sure to have lots of questions ready.

I just wanted to say what an amazing workshop you held yesterday! I learned so much, and it gave me the opportunity to do some deep thinking about things I hadn't really considered before regarding a transition into policy and macro social work.

Linna M.
MSW

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for hosting such a great work shop, it was really helpful and makes me hopeful that I will actually be able to get into some kind of policy work in the near future.

MEET YOUR COACH
Melissa Wojnaroski, MSW

I graduated in 2007 from the University of Michigan SSW with a focus on community organizing. I was 100% ready to take on macro-level change.

Until I started searching for jobs.

Everything was clinical. The few macro jobs I found paid so poorly they wouldn't support me. I ended up taking a clinical job--it was all I could land. But I kept at it. I transitioned into a research role 2 years later. Then to government.

In 2014 I became the first social worker ever hired to a team of all lawyers. I was hired as a Civil Rights Analyst. Today, half of that same team is made up of social workers — and I built the pipeline to get them there.

I've spent over a decade in federal policy rooms. The lawyers and policy professionals brought the legal frameworks. What they missed: who wasn't at the table, how to build the coalition, and how a policy actual lands on real people.

That's what you bring. Let me show you how to get in the room.

WHY IT MATTERS NOW?

We need systems-change that actually benefits us and our communities right now, not tomorrow. We need social workers who understand how systems actually work — not just how they should work — sitting at the tables where decisions get made.

You became a social worker to change things. Right now, you're patching what the system keeps breaking. The same family. The same gap. Every month.

The people who write those rules sit at tables that need you. This is why you became a social worker in the first place.

In short: We need you out there. NOW.

The best time to join was before your first job search. The second best time is now.

FAQ's:

  • Who is this course for?
This course was designed for social workers with an MSW and deep connection to a particular population or policy issue area. This course will show you exactly how to take that expertise and move it to the systems-level.

That said, others will find it helpful, too:
*Social workers already in macro roles who want to pivot to a new focus area or grow to a higher level position but don’t know where to focus.
*MSW students and recent graduates looking for macro level work. (Yes, it can even help you strategically get the most out of your MSW internship).
*Other adjacent professionals (psychology, counseling, human services, education, public health, etc.) who want to pivot to the policy space.
*BSWs looking to expand their role and trying to decide whether or not they want to go to graduate school.
  • Will I have to take a pay cut or start over at entry-level?
Absolutely not! Somewhere along the line you may have heard that the only way to make "real" money as a social worker is to go into private practice. We are pushing the bounds of that myth!

Here's the thing to keep in mind: when you remove the "social work" label and open your career path beyond "traditional" practice settings, you'll be working alongside an entirely new set of colleagues - lawyers, public policy professionals, medical professionals, public health officials, economists, elected officials, and even business executives - disciplines with average salaries that far exceed what most social workers make. And you'll be paid accordingly.

For most social workers, this means a significant raise.
  • Do I need a PhD, JD, or another dual-degree to make this work?
    Short answer: not usually.

Longer answer: there are some very specific policy level roles (mostly at universities and research centers) that will prefer or require a PhD. Same goes for a JD/MSW, or some of the other dual-degree offerings out there. If you know this is where you want to land, you may consider it.

But this is a small slice of your potential options! If you're considering additional higher education just to make this pivot, COMPLETE THIS WORKSHOP FIRST before deciding! Don't spend all that time and money on another degree unless you KNOW you need it to get to where you want to be. This workshop will tell you.
  • What about licensure?
In all likelihood, licensure just won't be necessary.

Remember, you're going to learn to target roles outside of "traditional" social work spaces. Your colleagues will not be social workers. Your job title will not say "social work." "Social work" won't appear anywhere in your job description.

Don't worry, you're still a social worker by training (and at heart). Your social work perspective and mindset is what will make you uniquely qualified for your new role. But because you're not working in a role specifically designed for social workers, licensure just doesn't even enter the picture as a job requisite. You certainly don't need to delay your policy-pivot or go out of your way to get licensed before you start this process.

That said, if you're already a licensed social worker, or really close to becoming one, go ahead and finish. It won't hurt, and there may be some very specific situations where your license could come in handy.
  • Does this mean I have to go into politics?
Not at all! "Policy" can mean "politics," but it doesn't have to. Social workers in policy roles sometimes become elected officials, but they also take on civilian government roles, or work in other spaces such as nonprofits, universities, think tanks, philanthropic organizations--even in business, technology, and finance.
  • Will this course help me if I want to run for office?
Probably not. It’s not the focus. With this caveat: If you think you might want to run for office but you’re not sure, this course can give you the necessary clarity and direction to make that decision.
  • I already have some macro-level experience, but I'm still stuck — is this for me?
Yes! This workshop isn't just for people starting from zero. It's for anyone who can't see a clear path from where they are to where they want to be — whether that's because you've never touched policy work, or because you have some exposure but can't figure out how to convert it into your next move. If you're still asking 'what's my next step?' this is where you find it.
  • Does the course offer individual or live support?
This is a self-paced workshop composed of prerecorded video lessons, including two recorded live Q&A sessions. It does not include ongoing live or individual support.
  • What if I need more help? Do you offer more advanced courses or 1:1 coaching?
Yes — I offer advanced coaching to workshop graduates. This is the foundation. Start with this workshop and we will build from there!
  • Is there a guarantee?
Yes. Go through the workshop, and if you feel stuck at any point, email me and I'll help you work through it. I've never had someone finish this and come up empty, and I'd much rather get you the outcome you want than get you your money back. But if you go through it and still don't walk away knowing exactly where to find the policy jobs that fit you, tell me within 30 days and I'll refund every dollar. No questions asked.

The jobs are out there. You just haven’t been looking where they are.
